So, here is a photograph I really like:

This picture shows president Salvador Allende's last moments during September 11, 1973, that is why he is wearing a helmet, he has a gun in his hands, and there are some armed men outside of these doors in La Moneda. This photograph was taken by Allende's official photographer, Luis Orlando Lagos, who released it anonymously because he was in exile, afraid for his own life. Only in 2007 we got to know that he was the photographer, after he died.

I really like this photograph because of several reasons. First, because it is a reminder of something that happened very recently in our country and that still has consequences to this day; it reminds me of the consequences of greed and power over the lives of people. Second, I like it because it shows the bravery of these people, who did what they thought best in those difficult moments - everybody knows that shortly after this photo was taken, Allende committed suicide in La Moneda. Some people see it as being a coward, but I see it as being brave and not giving up.

So, what about you?

  2. i also like this photograph very much, although i do not agree with those who say that Allende committed suicide, although i do believe in the mounting of this as something normal for this country that conceals facsist businessmen.
